Lorrkon or literally translated burial poles, or ceremonial coffin. They are part of the final ceremony in an order of burial rituals undertaken by the people of Arnhem Land. This ceremony involves placing the bones of the deceased in a hollow burial post, decorated with the clan's paintings. According to the ceremonial, the log is placed in the ground where it slowly decomposes over the years. Today, the lorrkkon ceremony is rarely performed but similar logs are painted as decorative objects.
Each pole comes with its description, certificate of authenticity and a biography of the artist.
