Description

My Comments: It is with pleasure that Didgeridoo Passion associates with: Ujazi didgeridoo. I am really seduced by the quality of Julien's instruments. He has become in a few years a renowned manufacturer and his instruments prove it! as much by the playability as by the interior exterior finish, passing by the perfect mouthpiece. A rigor for finally a super didgeridoo!

Julien : This didgeridoo is the instrument I am most happy to present to you. It perfectly matches what I want to play at the moment, it has the characteristics and the sound that I need and that I love. For this C# I started with the air column of a didg in D with the first toot at the octave that I often do (see this video to hear it : https://youtu.be/Vf8UoYAAvv0?feature=shared) and I modified it to give it a slightly less present bass and open the beginning of the air column a little more, to achieve great harmonic richness without losing compression and punch. The result is there, with a first toot in D, a superb dynamic and an addictive didgeridoo. I made you a quick video for the occasion.

Classification

This scale is the result of an air column/bell start ratio If we divide the diameter of the bell with that of the beginning of the air column we get a number between 1.5 and 3.5. We can classify all the didgeridoos in 4 large families. Each family groups the instruments with a similar character, simply based on the overall shape of the air column (conical/cylindrical) and on the diameter of the column (wide/narrow). The result is a simple and very reliable reading grid, making it easier to search and purchase on line.

The diameters are measured with a caliper, start of the air column after the mouthpîece. This ratio is very reliable for a didg having a air column with a 'smooth' internal work, in the case of a hollowed eucalyptus instrument it give an approach of the instrumental character.

Ujazi

French manufacturer of "Ujazi" didgeridoos

Julien Doutaz, Who is he?

"A sound engineer by training, I encountered the didgeridoo when I lived in New Zealand. I discovered it through an Australian friend and maker who taught me how to make it vibrate. I learned its importance , a little about its history and what it means to practice the didgeridoo When returning to France I felt the need to be in contact with wood and nature again and the desire to make my own instruments. pushed me to embark on the Ujazi Didgeridoo project."

Comment Does Julien do his didgs?

It is my attraction to the didgeridoo which, since 2011, has led me to make my instruments and create Ujazi Didgeridoo. Since October 2015, thanks to so much encouragement, I have made it my main activity. I started this adventure to fuel a passion and to continue this permanent search for new forms, new sounds, new harmonics, new woods and new people with whom to share all of this.

By experimenting with sounds, sculptures, woods, shapes and their associations, I seek to create unique, handmade, high-quality objects that can find and resonate something different in everyone. I work closely with people wishing to host my didgeridoos to be able to create a truly personal object, a unique sculpture, a complete instrument.

I select the species and pieces of wood according to the characteristics that I wish to give to the instrument and everything is done, both in the thinking and in the sculpture and finishes, so that the didgeridoo meets my quality criteria. sound. It is a continuous search to perfectly combine aesthetics, harmonic quality and playability. With imagination and a lot of work I live this project to offer, I hope, the best to the world of didgeridoo.
