Koshi Earth Symphony is the new collection of Koshi harmonic chimes, launched in 2026: four melodies inspired by great landscapes (Mountain, Forest, River, Ocean), the result of more than two years of development.

  • 12 strings in steel, silver-soldered and tuned one by one by hand, for a fuller, longer and more enveloping resonance.
  • Tuned to 440 Hz, the reference pitch in music: it can be played with a piano, a guitar, a voice or a recording.
  • Solid noble wood, one species per melody, protected by a thin coat of matt varnish.
  • Handmade in the Koshi workshop, at the foot of the Pyrenees, in France.

The four melodies

Model Key Wood Evocation
Mountain E major Walnut Majesty, verticality, silence
Forest F# minor Oak Mystery, introspection
River G# minor Cherry Movement, passage, hope
Ocean B major Maple Infinity, welcome, fulfilment

All four are in tune with one another: you can play two, three or four together without a false note.

What is a harmonic chime?

Inside the wooden cylinder, metal rods (the “strings”) are soldered onto a base, and a clapper suspended in the centre strikes them. Unlike a classic wind chime, the notes are not random: they form a chosen chord. This type of chime was invented forty years ago by the founder of Koshi, in the French Pyrenees, where it is still made.

How to play it

  1. The swirl: hold the cord and spin the chime with a light movement of the wrist. The wider the movement, the more the strings ring.
  2. The pendulum: swing it gently back and forth to bring out the notes one by one.
  3. Hanging: hung near a window or outdoors, it plays with the wind.

Who is it for

  • Musicians and singers: the 440 Hz tuning blends easily with instruments and voice.
  • Well-being (sound therapy, yoga, meditation): long resonance, very light to carry, dialogues with singing bowls and gongs.
  • Early childhood: to calm a classroom.
  • Gift: birth, housewarming, birthday.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can it be used outdoors? Under a roof, yes, and occasionally in the garden or on a terrace. Moisture damages the wood.
  • Why 440 Hz and not 432 Hz? To play and record with other instruments. For 432 Hz, look to the 4 Elements collection.
  • Can it be played with a Koshi 4 Elements? No: the two collections have different tunings and are not designed to be played together.
  • Why is it more expensive than the 4 Elements? 12 strings that are more demanding to tune, four noble wood species, and a redesigned, better-performing clapper.
