Andrew Begay, a true Navajo artist
Born in Arizona, USA, Andrew grew up in the Navajo tradition thanks to his grandparents. He has devoted the last twenty years of his life to playing and making traditional North American flutes.
Andrew is also a storyteller and loves to share aspects of the ancestral, traditional life of the Navajo elders. He also leads sweat lodge ceremonies, with drum, water and traditional songs.
His work goes far beyond a simple flute: he works like a jeweller or a sculptor. Each flute is unique, decorated with mother-of-pearl, turquoise, red coral or other natural stones, and bears designs of sacred animals such as the eagle, the bear or the horse.
Buying one of his flutes is a bit like owning a personal amulet. No serious collector of Native American flutes should miss the chance to own a flute by Andrew. In all modesty, he is today one of the finest Navajo artists.
