Bob Druett Class Concert

Description

My comments: Don't trust appearances would be a perfect saying for this didgeridoo. Of a fairly modest size, it offers a complete musical spectrum. An ultra easy playing pressure. I understand better why it is part of the concert class! A chance to get a Bob Druett, because contact with Bob has become very difficult if not impossible... and his instruments are very sought after.

It comes from the 2010s just before Bob started putting "numbers" on these instruments. It simply belonged to EMDEE (if you don't know, click here ) EMDEE only plays Bob Druett. He wanted an instrument that he could hold in his hand and play at the same time!

And for the rest of the story it was Alex from Alex didgeridoo who brought it back from Bob's. EMDEE had just brought it back to Bob to change the note... Since then it's Alex who has it.

The Concert instrument class: With the Concert class, it is mandatory that the instrument be clear and precise. Indeed, sound engineers can add as much "noise" as they are asked, but it is not possible to remove this same noise (not yet). Due to the style of music played and in awareness that the instrument will be sounded, the sound volume does not need to be high. With a Concert class instrument it is preferable that the didgeridoo has a wide range of sounds, that the timbre is rich, clear and pleasant to listen to.

Classification

This scale is the result of an air column/bell start ratio If we divide the diameter of the bell with that of the beginning of the air column we get a number between 1.5 and 3.5. We can classify all the didgeridoos in 4 large families. Each family groups the instruments with a similar character, simply based on the overall shape of the air column (conical/cylindrical) and on the diameter of the column (wide/narrow). The result is a simple and very reliable reading grid, making it easier to search and purchase on line.

The diameters are measured with a caliper, start of the air column after the mouthpîece. This ratio is very reliable for a didg having a air column with a 'smooth' internal work, in the case of a hollowed eucalyptus instrument it give an approach of the instrumental character.

Bob Druett

Australian manufacturer of the “Ultra High-end” didgeridoo

Bob Druett, in my opinion, is the pioneer of the high-end contemporary didgeridoo. He was the one who knew how to give the instrument its letters of nobility. No one before Bob had dared to push finish and precision to this stage. He also influenced many other didgeridoo makers such as Robbie the Stix maker and Alexis Rousselle.

Its instruments are of formidable precision. Having seen him work, I can assure you that what Bob can do, few manufacturers in the world are capable of. Bob's instruments are often didgeridoos with an open air column (meaning cylindrical), with clear harmonics. Their weight is relatively large in order to develop a strong presence. Unfortunately, since 2009-2010, very few instruments have left Bob's workshop. Real Rare pieces!!
